Idea:
Found a great resource with all archives of every single Mongolian note from 1924.
The database is very closed. I have to download every note.
I wish I had a template that I could integrate into a timeline to creatively show an interactive history of mongolian notes
I found a good service called Dipity that allows you to view posts via timeline.
Probably a way I could show this.
If I used another tumblr and put every single photo on an individual post, then used an RSS to intergrate into dipity.
I could then intergrate that into dipity and embed it onto my posterous.
That would take fucking ages though

Links for late:

Sat, 14 Nov 2009 15:16:17 -0800 Mongolian Flag http://mongolianstory.posterous.com/mongolian-flag http://mongolianstory.posterous.com/mongolian-flag

Flag_of_Mongolia.svg(SVG file, nominally 1,200 × 600 pixels, file size: 6 KB)

The current flag of Mongolia was adopted on February 12, 1992. It is similar to the flag of 1949, except for the removal of the socialist star. It has three equal, vertical bands of red (hoist side), blue, and red. Centered on the hoist-side red band in yellow is the national emblem (the Soyombo symbol - a columnar arrangement of abstract and geometric representations of fire, sun, moon, earth, water, and the Taijitu or Yin-Yang symbol).

Mongolia
Mongolia was always an obsession of mine - I think I was attracted more to the "idea" of going to Mongolia than actually having any interest whatsoever in the country . 5 weeks later, I was hooked. Mongolia was an experience to say the least; in retrospect, it felt more like cultural immersion 101 than real travel. It was pretty challenging at times; the language barrier being the main obstacle. But I survived and all the better for it.
(Get to the point Eddie, I can hear you saying....)

Mongolia was so beautiful in everyway: the people, the culture, the landscape (minus Ulaatar Baatar). A country trying to come to gripes with the modern world, entrenched in its Soviet past; the collsion of the past and present was evident in Mongolia. (ie: A nomad herder on a mobile in the middle of nowhere.) I stayed with a host family; an interesting experience: the main being that I got to see a side of Mongolia that I wouldn't have as a tourist. Tourism can be such a barrier: mixing the real and superficial, till you don't know what is what.

Anyway, highlights included: camping twice - once with some locals, the second with some tourists; meeting up with an old friend from Seattle who I hadn't seen in 14 years; clubbing with my Mongolian buddies in UB; and, of course (and I know some of you know already) but an apperance I had on Mongolian National television. I spoke absolute rubbish, but since half of the audience had no idea what I was saying, it didn't really matter. I am tempted to keep on writing, but this is an email, not a novel, so I'll carry on to chapter 2.

Sat, 14 Nov 2009 14:31:00 -0800 The Global Leadership Foundation http://mongolianstory.posterous.com/the-global-leadership-foundation http://mongolianstory.posterous.com/the-global-leadership-foundation
For as long as I can recall, Mongolia has occupied a special place in my mind. Perhaps it was the roaming nomads, the majestic landscape, or the sheer remoteness of the country. Upon arrival however what I found was something much more. Through Global Leadership Foundation, I was able to experience Mongolia on a number of levels - as a teacher, student, friend, family member, tourist, and even as a nomad! Although it was not without its challenges, I left Mongolia having learnt many valuable life lessons that I can take back with me to Australia. I promise you will be amazed by Mongolian culture and people: beautiful would be an understatement. Bayrlalaa!

I did a bit of work at an educational institution. Actually it was only two days, then I told Ogi, the director and friend, that I didnt wanna work.

Nevertheless, I said I would do some PR for me.
I wrote some BS.
We laughed about it over beers
And then we put it on his website.

Put its funny, I meant it.

Sat, 14 Nov 2009 14:01:07 -0800 I wrote this on Day 5 http://mongolianstory.posterous.com/i-wrote-this-on-day-5 http://mongolianstory.posterous.com/i-wrote-this-on-day-5
534539433_b7489a6615

Finally a moment of personal space.

Well where to begin? How do I summarise adequately, yet still give justify, to my experience in Mongolia these first six days? If it were something else - a week at university, the events in a workplace over the last month - I am sure I could highlight the events clearly enough. The dilemma I am having is that my first six days have been so completely and utterly random - shaken assumptions, culture shock, you name it - that to capture it in a blog post becomes difficult. Luckily I have been going nuts with my Powershot A630 camera: photography works wonders when you have writers' block.

Let's start at the beginning. After a 33 hour train ride from Beijing (relatively painless surprisingly), I arrived at the Ulaatar Bator train station on a Sunday: rucksack on my backpack, passport tucked safely in my money belt, looking for someone I had no idea what they looked like and likewise with them. Eventually we found each other and I was soon introduced to my host brother, Baacka (pronounced Bustka), whom I would be staying with over the next month. Baacka that night gave me a quick tour of UB, Mongolia's capital. And so it had begun, my journey in Mongolia. I am distinctly remember having trans-mongolian-chinese cultural shock: I had this yearning to go back to the familarity of China and I remember being as nervous as hell. New culture, don't know anyone (expect a loose IH connection), new cuisine...what the hell was I thinking.

Anyway, I am having trouble continuing this blog post, so I will leave it at that.
Point I wanted to make is: I am having a fanastic time here in Mongolia - it haven't been easy mind you - but all in all, absolutely mind-blowing....I can't wait to share my stories with you all, rather than trying to summarise it in a blogpost.
